The Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center was founded on the ideals held by these two community leaders, Michelle Abdill and Roxanne Ellis. Spurred in part by the tragic loss of Michelle and Roxanne, the Lambda Community Center Association moved ahead with plans for a Community Center.
Contributions from all over the world were forwarded to the Rogue Valley chapter of PFLAG. Those funds were delivered to the Lambda Community Center Association and with that momentum, the Abdill-Ellis Community Center was established; a place from which to continue the efforts that Michelle, Roxanne, and so many others in our community had started in education and bridge-building.
Through the work of dedicated volunteers, the only GLBT Community Center in Oregon, opened August 9th, 1996. The Center exists to maintain a positive, visible, and vibrant presence in the larger community and stands as a beacon for all bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgendered people, their families and friends.
