UpdatesHELP GLSEN OUT OF THE CLOSETSeveral years ago our Southern Oregon community supported a chapter of the national organization, GLSEN, the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network, a well-researched foundation that strives to make all schools safe for all students, faculty, and staff, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Locally, caring school principals and daring queer youth together spoke up at public forums, and GLSEN trainers addressed teachers' meetings on the high rate of suicide attempts among LGBTQ youth.
Momentum for Rogue Valley GLSEN diminished, but our queer and questioning youth still struggle in their homes, schools, and community. Like a not-so-sure teen, all of our Southern Oregon GLSEN training material went back into a closet.
Ideally, several organizer-type folks would consider re-constituting a local chapter; I'm sure some of the other former GLSEN workers would join me in midwifing the re-birth of GLSEN-Southern OR. But more simply, one or more interested persons could use this wealth of resources material to show a film, distribute handouts, and/or create a discussion. Even more basically, any one member of our LGBTQ community could step forward and embrace this opportunity to receive and organize this abundance of print material so that its presence as part of our Abdill-Ellis library would be an available richness upon which we could all draw.
Please help GLSEN get OUT of the closet by calling or emailing me. Thanks. Bob Morse, 482-8449, morse@mind.net. NEW! Well I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends. Did you eat too much? I think I did. Thank god for the gym, right?
The last couple of months, October and November, have been really fun with some nice dancing going on. I’m blessed to have lots of good friends and sisters to spend time with. I must say we all have a great time together and it’s safe and fun. Hope you feel the same.
The Baby Boomers’ Birthday Party for 5 women turning 60 was lots of fun with dancing, food and friends. Thank you all who came to help us celebrate that very special day in our lives.
We had a beautiful hike at Union Creek the trees were so full of color and the pictures turned out beautifully. The food at Becky’s was so good and the heart was warmed by friendships. Thanks for coming up ladies and the canine friends.

It was so nice to see Rhonda L. on the drums, playing and back to herself, "way to go girl". Annie L. was there… all smiles with a friend from out of town. We had B. C., Helen and Judy H. all out cutting a rug. Amy, Helen and Jo were there with bells on. Carla, Na, Rebecca, Diane L., Vickie O. Bev M. Pat and Jenny and I, danced to great songs. It was a wonderful evening. I heard that everyone loved it this year. I do want to thank any of you who bought memberships and supported the Center.
November 18th was a potluck at Cory’s. Thank you so very much my sister Cory for all you do to help our group.
Thanksgiving was wonderful; a time to spend with special friends. I remembered to give thanks for all life has given me and my family and friends but most of all for my spiritual relationship.
Lisa Koch was in town at the Cabaret Theater in Ashland. Hope you made time to see her act. It was one of the best evenings I have spent. The food was excellent and so were all the friendships.

One year in the making, Wilde Life currently has more than 15 shows in the can ready for re-broadcast. The show features panel discussions and guest interviews about topics important to the gay community. Dennis and Scott have successfully bid on more studio time. They will be in the studios of RVTV for the recording of more new shows on January 27th and March 31st. During these two days they will record anywhere from 4 to 6 shows for future broadcasting. This will mark Wilde Life's first year in production, as the initial four programs were recorded on April 1, 2006.
Recently it was brought to their attention that Wilde Life was the topic of a Portland-based blog. Dennis and Scott received kudos for stepping out of the closet with the first gay talk show in the state.
The new shows will be broadcast on Wednesday nights at 10:00 P.M. Until then the previously recorded 15 plus programs will continue to 'cycle' in broadcast.
