Volunteers needed!

The AELCCA Marketing Committee and the Membership Committee need people from the community to help the Center survive and prosper. Anyone who has skills in public relations, advertising, grant writing, fundraising and membership should contact Chad Adams 601-8367 celebratelife@care2.com (Marketing); and Darcy Hamilton 858-7957 darcyham7@msn.com (Membership); or Leslie Stone 488-9168 lesliestone@ashlandhome.net  (Board Chair).

Remember: The Board and its committees are not the Center. The Center is the membership! That’s you! We need you, each and every one of you, in order to grow and expand our programs and services. Without you we will fail. Volunteer!

August 26th   The Wilde Life

On Saturday August 26th, Dennis and Scott are back in the studio for three more interviews. The fall season will go though bid in the next couple of weeks and we hope to obtain three more dates for studio time. We also have a lengthy list of guest that have expressed interest in being on the program and that cover a board range of topics of interest to the LGBT community.

The show profiles gay men in the Rogue Valley, and is hosted by Scott Clay, and is produced and directed by Dennis Vickoren.  Dennis is attempting to show viewers that we are not that much different from everyone else, to show that young people are struggling with their sexuality, and can watch and see that gay people – can have a good life’ and he recognizes there is a high instance of suicide in gay teens and feels one reason is lack of support from the community.  Including a lack of positive role models, and no place to turn when in need.  "If I can help one all the effort will be worth it" said Dennis

We now have eight half hour programs pre-recorded and in broadcast rotation. The Wilde Life can be seen on Charter cable, channel 15 in Jackson and Josephine Counties, and on Ashland Fiber Network channel 95 and on the Internet at www.roguetv.org; click on community and then click on Live Streaming Video.   It’s shown at 10 PM on Wednesdays. You may email the show at wildelife@charter.net.

August 27     Men’s Hike-N-Sweat Club – Soda Springs

News from Scott:

Travis Thompson and Scott Clay have organized and will lead the second Men's Hike on Sunday, August 27, 2006. The destination will be Soda Springs in the Southern Cascades and accessed by South Fork Little Butte Creek Road through small historic community of Lake Creek. We will meet between noon and 12:30 in Medford at the WinCo parking lot towards the front area near Barnett Road. From there we will carpool and caravan for the 45-60 minute drive to trail head. Plan to return to the WinCo between 6:30 and 7:00, and then travel to Jackson Hot Springs to sweat and swim. Fee at the Hot Springs is $6. For the days outing we will be exploring the creek in a deeply cut canyon, sliding over a waterfall into a swimming hole. Bring water shoes, a sack and drinking water.

Scott's family has been returning to this isolated recreational area for nearly a century. Besides that area's great natural beauty this is a wealth of historic and prehistoric cultural evidence for the viewing. Travis will gladly provide botanical information.

Please leave a voice message with Travis at #973-7827 if you plan to hike with us.”

August – 2006 Golf Update

Rhonda's Update.

Well it's been an eventful summer so far. I do hope you are all out and enjoying yourselves with some golf. I have talked to many ladies and it seems a lot of new people have joined and are taking lessons from Marla Corbin at Bear Creek.

Golf is still on Tuesdays at Bear Creek Golf Course from 4-6pm. Please tell Daniel that you are with the Abdill-Ellis Women's Golf and then, if you want to play with us, he will hook you up.

We have had a short supply of women this year. Everyone has so much going on this year. There still are some of us who like to play together, so if you need more information please call me. Some of the women have been going to Quill Point to play and you can try this also. Peggy Atwood is the golf pro there and is very good. Marla and Peggy are great at lessons so please give them a call if you would like some.

If you have any questions please give me a call. My best to you all.

Labor Day Weekend          Sept 1 – 4 BROOKINGS BLAST

Rainbow Women’s Diva Connection RWDC

Kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, a women’s potluck/party, tent camping for those that want too.  And, of course a bonfire on the beach.  Come join us for our first Blast at the Oregon coast.  Be with friends.  Enjoy the smell and the beauty of the coast.

We will meet at the restaurant in Brookings Harbor across from Best Western Brookings Inn that is a great place to stay, and right on the beach.  Also, the Casa Rubio is very gay friendly and on the beach in Smith River.  Tent camping is free at my friend Linniah’s, but please call me and get her phone number as she needs to know who will be in her meadow.  She lives just out of Brookings by Whale’s Head.  There is a very beautiful beach across the street from her forest.

There is also the Salmon Festival going on that weekend with booths in the harbor.

Special info just received from Brenwyn about the horseback riding:

Brookings Ride

For any women who want to go for a horseback ride on the beach, here is the info. The ride will begin Sunday the 3rd at noon. You should arrive 30 minutes early. The cost is $30 each. It is strongly suggested that you call Hawks Ranch 541-247-6423 to make your reservation, and they will ask what your riding experience is and what size you are. You reserve your place with a credit card. The ride is 90 minutes long. There may be other people on the ride from other groups.\

The directions are:

Go 17 miles north of Brookings. On a straight stretch of road around 17 miles is a sign that says Pistol River Junction, 1/2 mile. Pass that, you will see a sign for Hawks Ranch on the right. When you come to a big sign saying Pistol River, Carpenterville, you turn right there. You come to a fork and go left. The distance to the ranch after you have turned right is .7 mile. You will see a big gray building at the end of the road and a sign that says Siskiyou West and another one that says Hawks Ranch.

More Rainbow Women’s Diva Connection events are on the Abdill-Ellis website.

Go to www.abdellis.org to check out more activities scheduled this fall.

Call Rhonda Young at 541-621-5778 for more details.

September 15-17    – WomanSource Rising 32nd Annual Fall Gathering

32nd Annual Fall Gathering

At Lake of the Woods

WomanSource Rising

September 15, 16, 17, 2006'

Women will meet again to share, to learn, to love, to dance, to delight in our unbroken circle of Woman Spirit! Camp Low Echo is quietly waiting for the sounds of our voices to fill the Lake’s high mountain bowl with joyous greetings, songs of our sisters, shouts of enthusiasm and echoes of our herstory. With belly dancing, drumming, circle songs, canoeing, camping, erotic readings, music, crafts, and hearty vegetarian cuisine, there is something here for everyone---, and lazy times too, if you want to just hang out.

For registration details, work exchange, craft sales and auction items, call or email Susan, 541 857-9024 abbycat269@yahoo.com. Workshop Leaders, call or email Barb, 541 479-4056 barbarad30@yahoo.

Sliding scale fee for the 3-day weekend is $85.00 to $150.00.The address of WomanSource Rising is PO Box 335, Ashland, OR 97520. Please register and pay your pre-registration or the full amount right away. We need your financial commitment to ensure that the Fall Gathering is a tradition and a celebration that is here to stay!

This year, we were able to reserve the camp earlier in September than we did last year. Camp Low Echo is a Girl Scout camp on the east shore of Lake of the Woods. We will be on the shore of a natural high mountain lake. Always beautiful, the lake water is especially clear this year because of the generous spring rains. It promises to be a beautiful fall. There is a central main dining lodge and a fire circle area outside. Simple open-sided cabins are available on a first come, first serve basis and there is a lovely tent camping area at the edge of the forest. RV’s are welcome, although there are no hook-ups.

WomanSource Rising collects donations of quality auction items from community members and local women’s businesses. If you have an item to donate to the auction, please bring it to the registration table at the Gathering. The money we raise from the auction will help pay for scholarships and work exchange. Woman made crafts and other arts will be featured in an informal market that will be set up for sales Saturday afternoon.

Workshop leaders! It’s not too late to offer your special talents to the mix. Workshop leaders are discounted 50% of the fee on a complimentary basis. Call right away with your ideas. A limited number of partial work exchange positions also remain available.

If you’ve never been to a Gathering before, this is the time to come, and find the heartfelt friendship that can grow in a weekend of activity, learning, soul-searching discovery and great good fun. Or perhaps you have made some personal herstory at the gathering in previous years? Then come, greet old friends, share a story or two and add another rich chapter. Women gather from many parts of the West Coast and beyond to enjoy this remarkable weekend, so please plan to come!
